Keep More Money For Yourself By Using Alternatives
One of the simple ways to keep more money in your pocket is to run through your list of expenses and think of alternatives. If you get creative, you will find that not many things are really irreplaceable.
Gym memberships are important for those diehard muscle builders but if you are just looking to get fit, you can probably safely cancel the monthly subscription. All you have to do is jog every morning and I bet that you will be just as healthy.
TV is one of the more expensive expenses on everyone’s budget. By using something like Netflix, we can cut out monthly cost by $80 a month without sacrificing advertising. Sounds great doesn’t it?
More and more people are switching to cell phones as their primary communication devices. Being able to cut the land line is great because that’s another $30 out of your monthly budget.
Restaurants usually give you so much sauce that you can just add more meat to the dish and have it still taste the same. This works especially well for Chinese food, so even if you don’t know how to cook, you can eat at home for less now.
Your cell phone plan probably comes with so many minutes that it’s hard to use it all. If you just call your phone provider, they can probably help you save some money by giving you a lower priced plan.
If you are sitting in business class on a flight because you used your points, you are better served by using them for free tickets. They are a much better deal and you get to save so much more money.
If you like magazines, it’s probably easier if you just bite the bullet and pay for a year’s worth. This one is a little backwards but when it cost $5 at the stand and $10 for a year’s worth, getting the year is probably worth the cost assuming you actually like the content.
Most of the stuff that you own is probably better rented. Not only is the upfront cost lower, you probably realize that you don’t need the product a few weeks after you take it home anyway. If it’s rented, you can easily return it without paying full price.
Sometimes, generic brands are as good, if not better than name brands. The best part is that since they don’t do any marketing, the product is usually much cheaper and that translates directly to savings for us.
